Here at Film Daily, we’re all about supporting screenwriters. We also love a good screenwriting contest! That’s why we, along with our friends at online marketplace Filmarket Hub, are thrilled to announce the launch of their new screenwriting competition focused on English language TV pilots.

The competition will be open until the 31st March 2020, after which the six semi-finalists, three finalists and the winning pilot will be announced throughout the month of June.

What is Filmarket Hub?

Filmarket Hub is a curated online marketplace for films and series in development.

With over 20,000 users from all over Europe and Latin America, Filmarket Hub matches unproduced projects with producers, TV networks, OTT platforms, sales agents and distributors.

Filmarket Hub also organizes live pitch events under the brand “Pitchbox”, where the best projects from the online marketplace have the opportunity to be showcased to leading companies in the industry.

About the contest

The winning script will be awarded a 1.000€ cash prize and the writer will be offered a place in the final selection of projects chosen to pitch live at the next Filmarket Hub TV Pitchbox in the UK.

This is a live pitch event where seven drama series in development are showcased in front of leading UK TV companies such as Caryn Mandabach Productions, Entertainment One, Ingenious, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Sky, Sunny March TV, Working Title Television and World Productions.

The first edition was launched in 2018 with a case study on Peaky Blinders, led by Executive Producer Jamie Glazebrook. The second edition took place in September 2019 with screenwriter Peter Harness opening the event with a talk on his experience writing on top shows such as Doctor Who and McMafia.

The jury of industry experts includes Tara Cook (development producer at Carnival Films), Karol Griffiths (development consultant and script editor) and Sarah Williams (literary agent at Independent Talent Group).

All three finalists will have their scripts read by the competition’s partners; Gaumont Television, Neal Street Productions and Red Arrow Studios who will offer feedback. Additionally, all the selected scripts will be awarded exclusive benefits from the Filmarket Hub online marketplace, an Erich Pommer Institute online TV writing course and the software Movie Magic Screenwriter.

Find out more information about how to submit your script here, and be sure to follow Filmarket Hub on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for updates. Good luck!
