How to watch Pittsburgh vs. Virginia Tech:

Live stream, TV channel, start time for Saturday’s NCAA Football game. Pitt and Virginia Tech players will not be required to wear face coverings in the field of play in Week 12. Face coverings have been a part of college football sidelines this fall … sort of … but to this point they have not been present on the field during play. After a few days of miscommunication and confusion, it would appear that teams playing in the state of Pennsylvania will not have to take an additional step by wearing face coverings while on the field.

Pittsburgh vs. Virginia Tech: Live stream, TV channel

The Pittsburgh Panthers have had a week off and are no doubt ready to get back on the field. Pitt and the Virginia Tech Hokies will face off in an ACC battle at 4 p.m. ET Saturday at Heinz Field. The Panthers will be seeking to avenge the 28 to nothing loss they suffered the last time these two teams played Nov. 23 of last year.

Everything went Pitt’s way against the Florida State Seminoles two weeks ago as they made off with a 41-17 win.

Virginia Tech suffered a bitter defeat last week, failing to capitalize on an early lead against the Miami (FL) Hurricanes. Virginia Tech lost 25-24 to Miami (FL). A silver lining for the Hokies was the play of RB Jalen Holston, who punched in two rushing touchdowns. Holston’s performance made up for a slower contest against the Liberty Flames two weeks ago. Holston’s sharp performance set his single-game rushing touchdown high for the season.

The Virginia Tech defensive unit accumulated six sacks for a loss of 37 yards. Leading the way was DL Jarrod Hewitt and his 2.5 sacks. Hewitt now has four sacks through eight games.

The Panthers are expected to lose this next one by 3. Those who got lucky with them against the spread two weeks ago might want to hold off on placing bets this time since the squad has yet to string together back-to-back wins against the spread.

Pittsburgh’s victory lifted them to 4-4 while Virginia Tech’s loss dropped them down to 4-4. The Hokies have been dynamite on the offensive side of the ball, averaging 35.63 points per game. We’ll see if Pitt can find some way to disarm them.

Game Preview: Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh

After a close loss last week against Miami, all bets are off for this Virginia Tech team. The Hokies are 4-4 (4-3), have lost three out of their last four, and are basically eliminated from ACC title contention. I didn’t check the math if that’s official yet, but if it’s not official, it’s close.

And given that every team in FBS is eligible for a bowl this year, there’s not all that much to play for, except if you have some pride, still believe in your coach and teammates, and just want to win whenever you step on the field.

All that sounds great, and every team, player, and coach will claim that’s their mindset, but we’ve all seen teams just flat-out quit before. So which way is this Virginia Tech team heading? They head north this week to take on long-time foe Pittsburgh. The Panthers have dealt the Hokies a number of demoralizing losses over the years, and the Hokies have won in Pittsburgh just once since 1999 (39-36 in 2016). Of course, there was a long break when VT was in the ACC and Pitt was in the Big East still, but the point remains. The city of Pittsburgh has not treated Virginia Tech well.

This is an interesting matchup of two programs kind of in the same spot, with a thick layer of COVID uncertainty mixed in, so let’s dive in.

Virginia Tech Player to Watch: QB Logan Thomas

As hard as it is to believe, Virginia Tech does not have a player with more than 100 yards rushing two games into the season. This is not exactly a program that you associate with a dynamic passing attack, though Thomas has done a superb job when called upon. Perhaps this is a new-and-improved Hokies offense. Thomas is only completing 59 percent of his passes, so there is work to do, but with four touchdowns and no interceptions, he is not making big mistakes that hurt the team.

Keep an eye on how he does in this game. If he continues to make progress, the Hokies could be a very interesting offense later this season.

Pittsburgh Player to Watch: RB Ray Graham

The Panthers are not going to be able to match anyone point-for-point, so it is imperative they find a way to control the clock and keep their offense on the field a lot in this game.

Graham is still looking for his first touchdown of the young season, though he was able to break through with his first 100-yard game against Cincinnati last week.

The Hokies always feature an aggressive, attacking defense, so the Panthers have to find some holes to exploit early to keep them back on their toes. A good running game can change everything about this game, and Graham is the key for the Panthers.
