The 2018 blockbuster releases that are set to be future classics

Could 2018 turn out to be a classic year for movies? There are lots of new releases planned for this year that might catch your eye and tempt you into a visit to your local cinema. The following are some of the most eagerly anticipated new films that are set to make an appearance in the second half of 2018.

Mary Poppins Returns

Set for a Christmas release, this could prove to be one of the big hits of the festive holiday period. The official trailer for this long-awaited sequel gives us a tantalizing glimpse of Emily Blunt flying to 1930s London as the magical nanny.

Given that the original movie came out in 1964, the 2018 release date means that there is a record-breaking 54-year gap between the two Mary Poppins films. The children are now grown up and Michael has his own children, but Mary comes back into his life when he most needs her.

The start of October will see the latest in a long series of recent superhero movies. However, this Venom film is the first to be set in the Sony Marvel Universe. Will it prove to be as popular as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has proved to be?

Venom is Spiderman’s enemy and here he is played by Tom Hardy. Suggestions of an R-rating mean that this looks like being a darker, more sinister take on the world of superheroes than those we have seen lately.

First Man

This is another October 2018 movie release. In First Man, Ryan Gosling plays Neil Armstrong in a film that is based on the astronaut’s biography. It will focus on the years before his famous trip to the Moon, showing the personal sacrifices he had to make in order to take the one small step.

Movies such as The Shawshank Redemption and The Intouchables are among those that Lottoland listed as capable of inspiring you to change your life. Will this film have the same impact on its viewers as those thought-provoking classics?

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

The massive success of the Mamma Mia! musical and the original film based on it meant that a sequel was virtually guaranteed. With a July 2018 release date, this ABBA-based story could be the hit of the summer.

This movie takes place a decade after the events of the original and it finds the group in Greece. Most of the cast from the last time has been brought back together, meaning that we once again get to see Meryl Streep, Cher, Colin Firth, and Pierce Brosnan among others.

Bohemian Rhapsody

The anticipation levels for this Freddy Mercury biopic can be clearly seen by the fact that the trailer became the top trending video on YouTube. In fact, it gained over 5 million views in the first day after it was brought out.

Rami Malek plays the Queen singer, with Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, and Joseph Mazzello making up the rest of the band on the screen. Real-life Queen musicians Brian May and Roger Taylor are the musical directors on this production.

Other movies worth looking out for this year include Transformers: Bumblebee, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Are you already making plans to see one or more of these films? Which one are you anticipating more eagerly?
