Spice up your Netflix and chill – Get down with the best movie sex scenes
Snuggle season is upon us. As we quarantine cozily in our homes, the timing’s perfect to spice it up a bit. If you need some inspiration to get your going, here are a few picks from Netflix for your Netflix and Chill session.
Blue is the Warmest Color
If you thought that the only epic couple that met in a bar was Meredith Grey & Derek Shepherd from Grey’s Anatomy, think again. In Blue is the Warmest Colour, teen Adèle meets an older art student Emma at a lesbian bar & things get heated up. This French coming-of-age drama shows a seven-minute sex scene, long enough to get you in the mood, yet short enough so as not to fall into the uncomfortable territory.
For the characters, the whole experience was amplified due to their emotional connection. It wasn’t sex for the sake of it. Adèle has that teen naivete about her as she is still on the edge about her sexuality, even though she has a boyfriend. Her tryst with Emma, then, is a sexual exploration that quickly turns into a sexual awakening.
It hardly seems like infidelity because they eventually move in together. But it’s always too good to be true that way, so things have to fall apart. Having said that, there’s a lot of controversy about the male gaze that undergirds the scenes in the movie, peppered with another controversy about how the actresses were treated by the director Abdellatif Kechiche.
There’s something about foreign-language films that heightens the sensual nature of the sex scenes. 365 Days is a Polish romantic drama movie, directed by Barbara Białowąs & Tomasz Mandes, and based on the eponymous Polish novel by Blanka Lipińska. The movie is practically strewn with steamy scenes, but the one that stands out is the one on the yacht.
The relevance of 365 days is that the protagonist Laura is imprisoned by a dominant Sicilian mafia member Massimo, who gives her a year to fall in love with him. Of course, there’s the initial resistance from her, but later when she falls off the yacht, Massimo rescues her & it’s easy to guess how that fiery moment ends.
The movie does not come with a whole lot of recommendation, what with its sexual violence & crudeness, but this yacht scene definitely makes it to the list of one of the hottest sex scenes in 2020. Few things are hotter than sex on the open deck of the yacht.
The woman climaxes for the first time when having sex with the man while in a stolen convertible. How can anyone deny the heat here? The sex is not a recommendation or indicator for their relationship, but the scene in isolation is thoroughly enjoyable.
All the Bright Places
Based on the eponymous novel by Jennifer Niven, All the Bright Places chronicles the life & brief relationship between teenagers Violet Markey & Theodore Finch, both meeting at a dark phase in their lives. They eventually fall in love as they bond over their griefs, sexual tension gradually builds up, until it finds release in an emotionally evocative, authentic sex.
In the process, the movie also normalized teenage sexuality, so whichever way you see it, it’s a win-win. The movie has also opened up a conversation on mental health, grief, loss, trauma, among other things. All The Bright Places also creates space for empathy, and even a sensual scene is elevated due to that.
Below Her Mouth
We’d normally not promote infidelity – being a grey area – but Below her Mouth gets a mention purely for the sex scenes that border on the pornographic. Following the story of Dallas & Jasmine, the movie’s all-woman-crew brought life to a whirlwind romance with passionate sex.
