Just because the movies make it look like the characters are having a good time doesn't mean the actors are. These sex scenes were rather complicated.

Sex scenes in movies: These were an absolute nightmare to film

Sex is messy. At times, it can be an absolute nightmare. The same can be said for sex scenes in movies. From the days of yore to now, filming can cause many issues, especially when coordinating two actors getting down & dirty. 🤫

Which sex scenes in movies were the worst to film? Do these awkward scenes get you hot under the collar? Let’s get under the sheets and investigate.

Bridesmaids (2011)

This hilarious comedy had its fair share of sex scenes throughout the movie. Kristen Wigg starred as the rather unlucky protagonist Annie as she competes with Helen (Rose Byrne) over their best friend and future bride-to-be Lillian (Maya Rudolph). Bridesmaids is a female-led film that never fails to have its audience dying of laughter.

Even the awkward sex scenes bring laughter to those watching. A not-so-steamy exchange is shared between Annie & Ted (Jon Hamm) whose relationship is already on the rocks (not to mention really weird). To spice up their sex, Annie can be seen in a variety of contortions that look super uncomfortable. 🥴

When speaking to Us Magazine, Jon Hamm revealed how awkward the scene was to film: “I am not a small human being. I weigh at least 200 pounds and I’m six-foot-two. And Wiig is a twig. I told her, ‘Just punch me in the side if I’m hurting you’.” Hamm continued by saying, “I mean, sure, there’s an awkwardness about being in a weird flesh-colored thong, bouncing on top of an actress.”

It looks like things aren’t as steamy as they may appear. Bridesmaids manages to capture the awkwardness both on & off-screen. 😅

Revolutionary Road (2008)

In this film, Kate Winslet & Leonardo DiCaprio of Titanic fame play a young couple living in a Connecticut suburb during the mid-1950s, struggling to come to terms with their personal problems while trying to raise their two children. A Winslet & DiCaprio reunion? Sign us up!

Only issue is Kate Winslet’s husband at the time was Revolutionary Road’s director Sam Mendes. Why is this an issue? No reason, except they have to film a raunchy sex scene! 🤭

When discussing the awkward setup, Kate Winslet wasn’t too pleased with the dynamics in the studio. “I just kept saying, ‘This is too weird,’” she told The Telegraph. “And Leo was like, ‘Oh get over it.’ And I’m going, ‘Yeah a little reminder. You’re my best friend. He’s my husband. This is a bit weird.’”

Things weren’t all doom & gloom for Winslet as she won a Golden Globe award for Best Actress for her performance.

Superbad (2007)

This classic comedy never fails to make us cringe & laugh simultaneously. Starring Michael Cera, Jonah Hill, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Superbad follows two codependent high school seniors who plan the ultimate booze-soaked party. After their plans go awry, they’re forced to deal with separation anxiety and wacky hijinks.

High-school & sex isn’t a safe combination nor is it smooth sailing. In one of Superbad’s many iconic scenes, Mintz-Plasse’s character, Fogell AKA McLovin, is caught having sex. It’s an awkward scene, but not because of the acting. Rather, it was because Mintz-Plasse’s mom had to be present during the scene. 😶

At the time of filming Superbad, Mintz-Plasse was only seventeen. In an interview with GQ, he revealed a parent had to accompany him to set and remain present because he was underage. His mom just happened to be the one taking him to set to film the sex scene.

What’s worse? Having your mom there while your filming one of your sex scenes? Or your husband directing the sex scenes? 🤢 Let us know in the comments!
